Level 1

Focus: Achieving an awareness of being upside down and ability to control factors of balance.

Curriculum:

  • Conceptual understanding of how the body can balance upside down.
  • Breakdown of key factors in a successful handstand.
  • Joint mobility and prep work to strengthen joints and minimize injury.
  • Positioning drills – hollow body, wall and partner drills, freestanding handstands.
  • How to (safely) bail!
  • Focus points when in balance.

Level 2

Focus: Holding a freestanding handstand, playing with various forms, and intro to presses.

Curriculum:

  • Keys to maintaining the freestanding handstand.
  • Learning different entries into handstand.
  • Exploring various formations – tuck, straddle, hollow back.
  • Introduction to straddle press.
  • Joint mobility and prep work to strengthen joints and minimize injury.
  • Strength and conditioning techniques for improving handstands.
